For Queanbeyan Chronicle. "Comment on roads"

Safety is a real issue in road planning and deserves a more strategic approach than ad hoc pork barreling from politicians at election time. Australia must also face the looming realities of oil depletion and global warming.
Cheaper petrol and bigger and better roads are not the answer. The Greens want a cheap, efficient public transport system and safe roads used by fuel wise cars. Rail can take pressure off roads and make them safer.
Climate change is again making rail a viable option. Well designed public transport, especially rail is safer, reduces road congestion, noise costs and road damage.
We want the next Australian Government to commit to a multi billion dollar investment over several years to upgrade Australia's rail transport infrastructure. An investment in public transport would maximise energy use efficiency, minimise fuel consumption and ensure cycle and pedestrian friendly transport planning as we face inevitable increases in petrol prices.
